Leshan: Jaywalking Leads to Accidents as Police Crack Down on Violations
2025/07/03 14:47 Origin:cced.cn
In a sustained effort to create a safe, civilized, orderly, and smooth road traffic environment—and to prevent and reduce accidents caused by unsafe and uncivilized behaviors like pedestrians jaywalking, running red lights, and climbing over guardrails—Leshan's public security traffic police have intensified efforts to correct and educate against pedestrian violations. Under the unified deployment of the Leshan Public Security Bureau Traffic Management Detachment, traffic police brigades in the main urban areas have adopted multiple measures to enforce safety, ensuring residents' travel safety.

Leshan traffic police are now exposing typical accident cases caused by jaywalking, urging pedestrians and all road users to learn from these incidents and abide by traffic rules for safe and civilized travel.
Tragic Consequences: Pedestrian Injured from Jaywalking
On April 9, 2025, Liu Moumou was riding an electric bicycle (plate number: Chuan LAC5***) from Minjiang Third Bridge along Longhuai Road toward Minjiang Fourth Bridge.
At 10:30 a.m., near No. 23 Longhuai Road in Shizhong District, Liu's bicycle collided with pedestrian Wang Moumou, who was crossing the road from right to left against the traffic flow. The accident injured Wang and damaged the vehicle.
Investigation showed Wang's illegal road crossing—failing to use a pedestrian crosswalk—was a primary cause of the crash.
Painful Lesson: Jaywalking Results in Injury
On April 26, 2025, Wan Moumou drove a car (plate number: Chuan ZD66***) from Changjiang Market in Shizhong District toward Quanfu.
At 6:08 p.m., near the east end of Minjiang Bridge (outbound direction), Wan's vehicle hit pedestrian Tu Moumou, who was crossing the road from right to left against the traffic flow. Tu was injured, and the vehicle was damaged.
Tu's failure to use a pedestrian crosswalk and illegal road crossing were identified as contributing factors.
Leshan Police Step Up Pedestrian Violation Enforcement
During the campaign, traffic police have increased patrols at peak times, key roads, and major intersections, using fixed-point inspections, mobile patrols, on-site corrections, and loudspeaker warnings to address violations such as running red lights, jaywalking, guardrail climbing, and ignoring zebra crossings.
Adopting a "persuade, manage, educate, publicize" approach, officers focus on on-site correction and education—stopping violations promptly, guiding behavior, and providing face-to-face safety lectures—to encourage compliance with traffic laws and eliminate unsafe habits.

Additionally, police have entered communities, schools, and enterprises to conduct safety seminars, distribute educational materials, and promote traffic regulations, aiming to enhance public awareness of road safety. (Text/Photos by Liu Ran, Hu Xun)
